Awaken Movement

RESET My City Q & A | Unashamed Impact

When did Unashamed Impact begin, and whyUNASHAMED IMPACT is a non-profit movement organization founded by Brittney Moses on July 27th 2012. The purpose is to unite young believers worldwide to be an example of what it looks like to live a positive lifestyle completely dedicated to Christ. This movement is breaking down the walls between race, denomination, location, background and gathering every soul willing to take a stand to be a light in this world. Unashamed Impact gives an opportunity that fosters the visions of young leaders and provides the tools they need to grow and create change in their city to their fullest potential through 4 dynamics: Fellowship, Making an Impact (Social Justice & Community Outreach), Being an Example and Evangelism.

What is your greatest hope for this community? Our greatest hope for this community is to raise up a generation of young Believers who are dedicated to the Faith. Bold, unashamed, and on fire for the Gospel of Jesus Christ our hope is to serve our generation and one another in love, excellence, and dedication to foster their growth into becoming the leader God has called them to be.

Has the vision remained the same or has it changed as Unashamed Impact has grown/expanded? We’re so excited for the direction Unashamed Impact is headed in! We are on a mission for the future with no doubt that where we are now isn’t anywhere near where we always will be. Two years ago, let’s face it, UI (Unashamed Impact) was simply a hashtag that stood for young leaders dedicated to standing for their uncompromising faith in Christ and making an active positive impact in our world. What was once a hashtag that exploded across the Twittersphere soon became a movement and then an organization before you knew it the vision kept growing, developing, and gaining clearer insight. We knew that if we wanted to be influential to this generation in a very practical way we’d need to target two areas of society: Our Communities (and being hands on through authentic relationships with others in our city) and the Social Media World (one of the most influential platforms of today’s culture). But that was just the start.

Unashamed Impact gives an opportunity that fosters the visions of young leaders and provides the tools they need to grow and create change in their city to their fullest potential. The goal is to gather, equip and send out. We disciple, activate and encourage our city teams through 4 dynamics: Fellowship, Making an Impact (Social Justice & Community Outreach), Being a living Example and Evangelism. We are a ministry/movement outside the four walls of the church bringing hope to those who will not step foot into a church through social media, community events and outreach. Our city chapters range from South Africa to the Dominican Republic and all across the US. Homeless outreach, orphanage visits & activities, nursing home visits, clothing drives, beach/community clean ups and Domestic Violence Awareness Brunches are just a few examples of what our young adults have organized.

Do you feel social media helps or hinders us in creating community and building relationships?  We believe that Social Media has played a role in hindering the spiritual growth of the Body and has also had an effect on relationship building in general. It has become a source of addiction, especially for young teenagers. It serves as a replacement method for people who seek to exploit their personal information and feelings. The social media world can be a dangerous place for people who use it as an outlet for negativity or who are easily influenced to conform to the evil patterns of this world.

On the other hand, Unashamed Impact has a lot of social media influence. It is what we use to connect and reach out to people all across the globe in order to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Saying that you are a Christian means that you are to represent Christ in all that you do, and signing up for Unashamed Impact means that you represent the ministry in what you do, say, and post, even on your personal accounts. We’ve dedicated an entire team to just that! The Unashamed Impact Social Media Team consists of the dedicated individuals who are accepted into our internship program to participate in our missions behind the scenes, by using various social media networks and blogging tactics to spread the Good News  and to inform the public of UI events and social justice efforts. UI has a lot of Social Media influence and we plan to use it all for the Glory of God. All Social Media interns are required to receive the SM and Online Safety Agreement upon signing up which includes the standards and code of conduct the interns are held accountable to follow.

What resistance have you met and how have you handled it? Over the years UI has faced an abundance of adversities. From the personal opinions of others - who have made an effort to tell us that some of the things we do are un-Biblical and they won't help to change the world, to the personal struggles we have faced together on the inner being of our team. The grief of losing family members, financial struggles - individually and collectively, and even the loss of team members who were guided to a different path in life. If you were to ask any of our Core Leaders you would hear them say “we’ve seen it all.” Yet, we believe that there has been three key factors that have held our Organization together:

1. Dedicated Leadership: First under the guidance of our Lord Jesus Christ and the direction of our Core Leaders and Founder Brittney Moses, we have been led to a true state of persistence and unconditional dedication. In this, we have come to believe that no matter what the enemy throws into our path, what he means for the bad God can always use for the good, and we will continue to sacrifice and fight for the purpose in which God has brought us together.

2. Unseasonal Love: Here at UI we truly consider ourselves a family. There are times where we release the burdens of the administrational efforts to sustain the ministry and engage in touching moments of fellowship. As we draw close to God, we want to draw close to each other. In this we will have a much better chance at prospering together as a ministry and as a family of unashamed vessels for Christ.

3. The Power of Prayer:  At Unashamed Impact we value the concept of daily communication with each other and with God as we can attest that just that alone has played a major role in sustaining the ministry for 2 years. In fact, for over a year now UI has constructed an amazing team of prayer warriors who not only dedicate their time to praying for the ministry, but also those in need. For anyone who’s looking to start or enhance their ministry we would encourage them to build a solid foundation on dedicated leadership. Love each other in every season. And take the time to pray together.

Can you give us a quick story of Kingdom Impact that your ministry has been part of recently?

Speak for the Silenced:  Spreading mass awareness on persecuted and martyred Christians oversees- writing letters, educating the masses and raising funds to assist in the practical needs of these victims. We held intense episodes on our Life Changers conference calls every Monday night and invited people to call in to experience expert voices discussing the topics of Christian Persecution overseas. We also used our Social Media influence to incorporate our worldwide followers by collecting pictures of them supporting the movement by taking unique and inspiring pictures of themselves SPEAKING OUT for the silenced victims of Christian persecution.

Reset My City | Embrace Grace w/ Amy Ford

When did Embrace Grace begin and why? In 2008, my co-founder Salina Duffy and I were at a women’s conference when God clearly spoke to us. I heard, “throw baby showers for girls with unplanned pregnancies” and Salina heard, “help the mommies and the babies.” We brought our thoughts before the pastors at church and they encouraged us to try out a small-group style Bible study for girls that have crisis pregnancies, and throw them a baby shower. We had never led anything in our life and we stepped out with big faith and prayed that girls would show up - and 3 precious girls did. We were blessed to pour into their lives in their season of growing a miracle in their womb, we told them how proud we were of them for choosing life and that they were brave and courageous. We told them they would be great mommies and God had already equipped them with everything they need. During the 12 week semester, something amazing began to happen. We could see a sparkle in their eye again. Walls were coming down and hope was building in their hearts. They started to believe in themselves and what we had been telling them that God really does love them and that they have an amazing destiny and purpose. We started to see that spiritually and emotionally healthy mommies parent spiritually and emotionally healthy babies … and the butterfly effect of generations impacted can change the world. They might have come for the free baby shower but then Jesus wrecked their lives in such an amazing and beautiful way - and as leaders we have front row seats to the transformations and miracles in their lives. It’s beautiful!

What is the aim & mission of Embrace Grace? After we led our small group at Gateway for 4 years, our classes just kept getting bigger and bigger. More girls were hearing and coming to our classes and also other churches were reaching out to us asking questions like, “How are you doing this? How does this work? Can I start it at my church too?” and God started showing us what direction He was taking the ministry. We launched our non-profit in October of 2012 and our mission is to inspire and equip the church to love on single and pregnant girls. We have written amazing curriculum for church leaders to implement into their own church so that they can be not only a pro-life church but a pro-love church as well. Our vision is for every girl with an unplanned pregnancy to have a church to go to for spiritual, emotional and physical support. We promise them that they do not have to go through this alone and we create an atmosphere for friendships and families to thrive. We want the church to be the first place girls run to when they find out they are pregnant instead of the last because of shame and guilt.

Has the vision remained the same, or has it changed as you’ve grown/expanded? When we first started Embrace Grace, we had no idea it would take off on a national and now even international level that it has. We just wanted to love on brave moms and then God took this and made the impact even bigger. God started shifting our focus from the girls themselves (which we all still lead in our small groups as well at our church) and started showing us how we can equip leaders to help the girls - we help people, help people. We provide all tools to the women that have a heart to help girls with crisis pregnancies - which there are TONS of people that have the heart to help. They just needed a little push on how to do it. When we disciple and equip and teach others how to love the way Jesus loves along the way, we can change the world!

What resistance have you met, and how have you handled it? Oh there were plenty of little bumps along the way. It’s pretty typical of the enemy to try to do everything possible to stop what God is doing … but the key is to not give up. The doors were opening a lot faster than any closed doors. Burn out would tend to happen when either not enough delegation was done or if we were taking on burdens that God never wanted us to take on. We can’t fix all the problems of the girls in our program … but we can point them to the One that does. We are not their source - God is. We just get to do the introduction and cheer them on in the process. I learned that if we just stay in our lane, and get really good at what God has called us to do, partner and bridge with all of our friends that are really good at what they do, we are not only making an impact on the world, we are having FUN doing it!

Can you give us a quick story of Kingdom impact that Embrace Grace has been a part of recently? Our program is in 46 churches across the nation and growing - but the place it all started is a church called Gateway Church in Southlake, TX. We have just finished our 12th semester there and it is our biggest group of brave young moms. Because of word of mouth from the alumni themselves, we were able to just host the largest baby shower for girls with unplanned pregnancies ever done by a church family last April - hundreds came, bought gifts and blessed SIXTY-THREE moms that chose life! It was beautiful! Everyone that came was impacted by the outpouring of love to girls craving hope.

What encouragement can you give others who have a passion to begin their own ministry/organization but don’t know how/where to start? You don’t have to have it all figured out before you start. Serve where you are planted. You don’t need a title, stage, or ministry name to make a Kingdom impact. Serve where you are most passionate and what makes you the most fired up and when you are faithful in the small things, God will grow your ministry and start making even bigger things happen. Be a good steward with what God has given you, and he will bless you with more. “But seek first his Kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” [Matthew 6:33]
